Zoom App

Why do I need the Zoom app?

If you plan to connect synchronously with your students or colleagues for class or meetings, we highly recommend using Zoom for this. Zoom is reliable, easy-to-use, and versatile. For more information about using Zoom, refer to the Setting up and Using Zoom section.

Can't I just use Facetime?

Yes, you can. There are instances when Facetime might be more applicable. If you are conducting class for a single student who is missing and your students are working in small groups, having one student in a small group Facetime that missing student might be more effective than bringing the missing student in through the larger class system. (This is assuming you are conducting this session on-campus). Facetime is limited in its capabilities and bandwidth, however; which is why we recommend Zoom.

What if I don't plan to do any video or synchronous meetings?

You are not required to conduct video sessions while away from campus. This is simply an option that you might want to explore, and we want you to have the information and tools necessary to do so.

How do I get the Zoom app?

If you have a college-issued laptop, Zoom should already be installed. If you are using your own computer or a smartphone or tablet, you can navigate to https://zoom.us/download#client_4meeting or the Apple/Play store, respectively and search for "Zoom app".
